Hi guys, sorry it has been so long since I posted anything, but I’ve been going through a lot of major changes in my life. Most exciting of which is starting a degree at Qantm College in Sydney. It is a Bachelor of Interactive Entertainment in Games Design! They also do Animation, Programing, Graphic Design etc. (Audio and Film across the road at sister college SAE), so if you have ever been interested I recommend you check out the site at least. I made a 3D hand today, in 30mins, second lesson… (it wasn’t very good though, lol). But yes, big changes have held me back from really having anything to post. I, also, will be studying hard til December (so many new applications to learn to use), so my posts will remain limited in this time, but if I have anything interesting or that I am proud of, you guys will be the first to know 😉
The first of such feats is the making of these cupcakes. I made them for my “Grow Up and Get a Life” Party (ok, so it was more of a gaming, casual get together with a few people I have’t seen for ages) to celebrate turning 25 and starting my new course. I thought the theme was rather fitting.
All I did was use a box cake (I used Golden Butter Cake) and then just made icing myself (icing sugar, butter, milk and food dye). Just be careful when mixing your own icing. Use barely any wet ingredients and add more IF you need it, otherwise you will end up with a massive bowl of sloppy icing (been there, done that). Also, let the cakes cool so that the icing is easier to shape. You don’t want the heat from the cupcakes melting the icing and making it run. I applied the icing in small amounts with a teaspoon. It allowed for more control. I started in the middle and gently pushed/dabbed it out to make the round Shroom shape. Then I did the cream bases the same way. The white spots I ended up using White Chocolate Writing Fudge purely because it was easier (remember to refridgerate if using chocolate fudge) and then just a black icing pen for the eyes.
And there you have it! Some of the cutest cupcakes I’ve ever seen (even if a little inconsistent). Alternatively, I guess you could make marzipan and cut out the shapes you want from that. I would have preferred that but didn’t have the time nor will to Google. Hope my tips help. I don’t bake often so I found them important. Happy Geeking ^_^
