Welcome SchmandaRose

SchmandaRose joined the ranks of Revenge of the Film Nerds yesterday with her very first post reviewing The Lord of the Rings on BluRay.   She comes to the team after Bride of Film Nerd and I met SchmandaRose and her husband at the Supanova Postnova party.   Clearly, we were similarly punctual pairs of geeks and we hit it off immediately.

So I wish to extend a warm welcome to our new contributor, and I look forward to seeing what she has to add to the blog!!

30 Day Film Challenge Index

Recently, I posted 30 blog entries in 30 days each responding to a question about film.   These posts seem to be quite popular in hits, so for convenience, I have compiled an index listing my responses.

You can find the index here.

We are on Twitter!

Hello readers,

In a continuing effort to ensure as many interested parties as possible can enjoy what Revenge of the Film Nerds has to offer, we are now on Twitter.   Links to all new posts will be automatically tweeted, as well as any Nerd worthy news of import that we wish to share, but that may not be worthy of a dedicated post.

100th post!!

This blog is not yet a year old, and here I am able to celebrate 100 posts (keep in mind, this only includes blog entries, and not separate pages dedicated to special events).   As such, I am reflecting back on what has been written and what has been achieved.   It is very clear that our most popular entries are reports on conventions, such as Armageddon and Supanova.   These reports will keep coming, with Urban Fantasist visiting Brisbane Supanova right now, and Fourth Verse attending the Melbourne equivalent next week.   I will kick their butts to make sure they get their reports up in good time.   I imagine both those contributors will also attend Sydney Supanova, which will also be attended by myself and Bride of Film Nerd.

Less viewed have been the film reviews to date, except for really niche films and TV films such as the Hornblower.   New releases also tend to get a higher rate of hits.   This is not surprising given the sheer multitude of movie reviewers there are out there.   I am not deterred, having a real passion for film review, and this is an element that will never be absent from this blog.   However I will start reviewing seasons of television series (I am currently marathoning both Doctor Who and Smallville), to increase the amount of output of stuff that it is harder to find reviewed elsewhere.   I am also considering adding a few other elements (action figures, video game reviews), so keep tuned.

While I get my act together though, I notice a few franchises in which only one film has been reviewed to date (Toy Story, Narnia, Iron Man, and the Millennium trilogy all spring to mind).   So while I am unable to afford much cinema going at the moment, these films will also be a short-term focus.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome, and I look forward to Revenge of the Film Nerds celebrating 200 posts!!

Armageddon Sydney 2011

Revenge of the Film Nerds have continued their noble mission of exploring the world of Sydney geekdom by attending Armageddon at the Dome in Olympic Park this weekend.   Our reviews and photos are in progress, but please feel free to see what we have made available online so far….

Film Nerd and Bride of Film Nerd Summary

Film Nerd, Matrix style

We are now Mr. and Mrs. Film Nerd!

Hello readers, we are back!!

Okay, we were back over a week ago, but I have only just managed to get the internet fully functional at our current abode.   We will be providing new movie reviews and reflections on our time spent in Middle Earth, but as it is late right now, I will whet your appetites with a single photo… perhaps the greatest moment in my life if I had not been at my own wedding 2 weeks earlier!!

Film Nerds on Hiatus

Tomorrow, Bride of Film Nerd, though keeping that name for this site, will in reality now be Wife of Film Nerd.    As such, we will not be seen posting in the next few weeks while we enjoy a hiatus in Middle Earth.   I apologise I did not finish my pre-emptive LOTR reviews, but I shall rectify that on my return.    We will come back though with plenty of images, perhaps some video to upload, and our recommendations for any other fantasy film fanatics that want to follow in our footsteps.   Until then, farewell faithful readers!!

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

The Film Nerds Take Revenge

Yes, that is right, Revenge of the Film Nerds is taking the next step in its evolution.    Though the site can still be accessed by the original Film Actually address, the primary site to visit us is now;

As such, our rebranding is now complete.   But what’s in a name???   In addition to formalising this blog (which will very soon also feature its own logo), myself and my fellow contributors have some fresh plans for the future.   Though we will continue supplying movie reviews, with a particular focus on genre films, ROTFN seeks to keep the Sydney geek informed of anything that may strike his or her fancy.

Following the success of our round-up of Supanava last year, the Film Nerds will be attending Armageddon next month.   Keep your eyes peeled for our reports and photos of the event.   We will also be looking to write reviews on a much wider basis than just movies.   I am particularly keen to read what FourthVerse will have to contribute in the form of anime reviews.

A final note, in les than two weeks, there will be a brief hiatus in posts supplied by myself and Bride of Film Nerd, as we head on our Honeymoon.   Given our destination is Middle Earth, however, get ready for a travel journal and photos to be posted on our return!!

Thanks for reading, and here’s to another succesful year!!!

New – Review Index

Revenge of the Film Nerds has now made finding the review to the film you are curious about a little bit easier.   I have added a “Review Index” page, listing each review posted here, with a direct link to said review.  When more than one contributor has included a review for a single film, those contributors are listed after the film title so that you can go straight to the review of your choice.

To access the Review Index, click here, or the link to the page at the top of the screen!
