Heroes and Villains – Exhibitors and new friends

The next installment of our Heroes and Villains round-up features a couple of the exhibitors at the event, including an interview with Adrian Harlor of the Gametraders booth (and manager of the Blacktown branch.   He was co-hosting the booth with Jack, owner of the Parramatta store).    We also met the gang at Ninja Monkey, we were introduced to the joys of web comic Crimson Rose, and met the lovely ladies behind Women Talk Sci Fi.   For more details, keep reading!!

It has been a while since we have given an update on our favourite store, so here are some of the goodies that are available this month!!

TRADING CARD GAMES

Gametraders Blacktown is your one-stop shop for Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Vanguard and Magic: The Gathering.   The store is even holding weekly competitions for each of these games.   The Yu-Gi-Oh comps have been running the longest, with a special month long-competition occurring in store for the month of August, with special prizes available at the end in addition to the regular weekly prizes.   Magic and Pokemon tournaments have recently started, with Vanguard also set to commence this Saturday.   Feel free to write to Revenge of the Film Nerds, or talk to the friendly staff at Gametraders, for more details.

Lollipop Chainsaw – A Review by Film Nerd

Console: Xbox 360, PS3

Developer: Grasshopper Manufacture

Synopsis: Juliet Starling is a cheerleader whom is much more than she seems, but only just,   This shallow, stereotypical American teenage bimbo is also a Zombie Hunter, part of an eccentric family all in the same line of work.   The events of the game take place on Juliet’s eighteenth birthday, which starts poorly with her boyfriend being bitten.   So she does what anyone would do and chops off his head, reanimates it with a spell, and uses it as one of the weapons in her arsenal, which also includes a chainsaw (natch) and… ummm… pompoms.

Gametraders Blacktown Cosplay Event – 27th May 2012

Another fun day at Gametraders, with their most recent cosplay event in full swing.   Staff and customers alike dressed as their favorite anime and pop culture icons.   Publicity was running amok too, with old and new friends dedicated to the spread of geek culture meeting and swapping details.   In this respect, I give a shout out to Problem Child Productions, Project Ouroboros and Duchess Sakura Cosplay!

Great Treasures at Gametraders May 2012 – Cosplay is coming!

As a result of a distraction provided by my studies, I have been a bit lax about supporting my favorite store.   A visit last night shows me that Gametraders Blacktown is still number one when it comes to getting me to draw my wallet out of my pocket… way too regularly!!

Adrian would like readers to be aware of the cosplay comp that will be on this coming Sunday.   The event is to celebrate the release of Naruto Shippuden volume 9…

The prize is fantastic, with $50 in store credit going to both the best dressed male and the best dressed female on the day.   Look out for the tenth Doctor when you come down!!

Games in this month…

There are a lot of games that have been added to the shelves since my last visit, and many of them have caught my eye.   I know very little about Dragon’s Dogma, but given it is dragon based, it may just be my next purchase….

Great Treasures at Gametraders – Special Edition

Last night was a huge one for Gametraders Blacktown, with the long anticipated release of the limited edition Star Wars Kinect bundle.   With the aid of a Storm Trooper and an Imperial Officer, most of the stock that Adrian had is almost gone.  One of our very own contributors, SchmandaRose, walked away with a bundle, with the Star Wars element finally swaying her to have a 360 in addition to her favourite PS3.
